Westminster City Council has released plans for improved cycling facilities on Westbourne Terrace. These are the 3rd phase in a series of cycling improvements for the road, phases 1 and 2 having been completed.
The new proposals are the most comprehensive: they aim to take the current arrangements (which were largely implemented in a temporary manner) and convert them into a high quality cycle route. Kerbed protection will be implemented and junctions will be upgraded. The list of improvements is as follows:
- Continue the existing segregated lane that starts at Lancaster Gate all the way up to the Westway
- Improve the junction with Bishops Bridge Road to include dedicated cycle phases and lanes (north/south only)
- Create a new crossing under the Westway so that Westbourne Terrace Road and Little Venice can be accessed directly when travelling north on Westbourne Terrace
- Pedestrian crossing improvements for the Bishops Bridge Road junction and Cleveland Terrace junction
A consultation is open until Wednesday 23rd July – it can be completed on the project’s website, which also contains full details of the proposals. In addition, a drop-in session is being held Pickering Hall, Hallfield Estate, London W2 6HF on Wednesday 16th July, 3pm to 6pm.
