A POSITIVE VOICE FOR THE RESIDENTS OF THE HYDE PARK ESTATE

Updated Brook Street cycling consultation

Westminster City Council has released a new traffic order to improve cycling facilities on Brook Street. This is a scheme that was previously consulted on in July 2023 and proposed to be implemented in May 2024.

This new proposal is based on previous feedback and the new scheme has been changed as follows:

  • The proposed cycle lane is to be wider, in a similar width that it is already, to allow room for horses to use the lane.
  • For the cycle protection, “cycle defenders” will be used instead of the wands that were previously proposed. These are short blocks, a bit like a soft kerb. This is to improve conditions for the horses using the route.
  • The cycle protection has been shortened, to not go quite so far up to the junction itself.
  • Traffic signals will be adjusted to reduce the amount of pedestrian “green man” time, to allow more motor vehicles to exit Brook Street per cycle.

Any comments or objections on the scheme can be made by emailing tmo.westminster@wsp.com quoting reference 8008-01/CM by 16th July 2025.
