A POSITIVE VOICE FOR THE RESIDENTS OF THE HYDE PARK ESTATE

Have your say on the future of St Mary’s

St Mary’s Hospital has announced plans for the complete redevelopment of the hospital and they would like to hear what you think as a local resident.

St Mary’s’ sprawling patchwork of ageing buildings, half of which are older than the NHS itself, are now in such poor condition that a major building failure is likely within 4–7 years. Keeping the ageing hospital open comes at an enormous cost. Millions is being spent every year just on maintenance.

St Mary’s proposes to build a new hospital on a smaller, less sprawling footprint. This would help create more joined up patient pathways and release some of the land for sale to help pay for construction.

The intention would be to have one taller, main, landmark building at the eastern end of the site, where construction work will be least disruptive to patient care. Alongside a new St Mary’s, there are opportunities to regenerate the remainder of the site. This would help meet the challenge of funding the new hospital, and also enable the site to be opened up and a new neighbourhood created.

Although the proposals are at a very early stage, St Mary’s would like to hear your thoughts. You can read more and respond to the consultation on the hospital’s website.
