A POSITIVE VOICE FOR THE RESIDENTS OF THE HYDE PARK ESTATE

Member survey results

HyPER undertook its first survey of members recently, to find out what they think about ongoing topical issues. The 2 specific areas of this survey were the proposed pedestrianisation of Oxford Street and the ongoing work to regulate pedicabs.

If you are a HyPER member then it is not too late to have your say. Refer to the email newsletter that announced the survey: this contains a unique link for you to have your say.

Oxford Street pedestrianisation

There were mixed feelings about the proposed plans from the Mayor to pedestrianise Oxford Street, with a roughly even split between those supporting the proposals and those against.

Where there was a clear view, however, was that of concerns over traffic displacement into the Hyde Park Estate. This therefore shows even more imperative for the Council to take action to prevent rat-running traffic through the Hyde Park Estate, something our councillors committed to doing so shortly after being elected over 2 years ago.

Pedicab regulation

The view of pedicabs by HyPER members was less nuanced. Whilst some people considered them as a useful facility for tourists (and to a lesser extent local residents), there was a clear majority of members that viewed them as a nuisance.

Pedicab regulation is ongoing and HyPER attended a meeting with our MP and TfL regarding this. There are further details at this link.
