A POSITIVE VOICE FOR THE RESIDENTS OF THE HYDE PARK ESTATE

Proposed post office closures

The Post Office has released proposals to close a number of post offices in central London, including the one on Praed Street.

The closures in question are post offices run directly by the Post Office (“Crown” post offices). There is hope that they may be able to be turned into franchises run by commercial companies, but given that the reason for closing them is that they are apparently unprofitable begs the question as to whether a franchise operator should be (or would be willing to) effectively subsidise their operation. Given how busy the post office is on Praed Street, HyPER believes that a fundamental review should be undertaken regarding the fees paid to the post office by services performed on behalf of 3rd parties (such as banks).

Both the Conservatives and Labour have created petitions against the closures which can be signed at the links below:

The Conservatives petition is available at this link.

Labour’s petition is available at this link.
