The Council has signalled its intent to proceed with a number of cycling improvements around the Hyde Park Estate and the wider Paddington area.
The proposals were consulted on last year and we wrote about them in our previous news item. Most items are simply a permanent formalisation of schemes that are already in place on a temporary basis. The greatest change is the implementation of “wands” to better segregate cyclists on Brook Street.
The planned implementation is largely as consulted, with the exception of the banning of the left-turn out of Brook Street onto Bayswater Road, which will no longer be implemented. This does mean that there will be a risk of cyclists being “left-hooked” by vehicles, but in reality the Council did not have much choice, as otherwise commercial vehicles leaving Hyde Park Gardens would have in effect hit a dead-end with no way to turnaround.
Full details of the proposals are contained in the Traffic Management Order. Any final comments on the proposals can be made by emailing tmo.westminster@wsp.com quoting reference 8008/CM by 12th June 2024.
